On January 19, 2016, a U.S. District Court ruled against a group seeking to challenge the environmental permitting process associated with the Birmingham Northern Beltline. Judge Keith Watkins dismissed all of the plaintiffs' claims with prejudice.
"The court's ruling reaffirms ALDOT's belief that all required evaluations were thoroughly conducted and all regulatory approvals secured prior to beginning construction of this important transportation project. The ruling is consistent with the Court's previous ruling denying plaintiffs' attempt to block construction. We remain committed to providing a safe, efficient and environmentally-sound Northern Beltline in Birmingham," said ALDOT Director John Cooper.
